The Costello Memorial Chapel in Carrick on Shannon is the smallest chapel in Europe, and the second smallest chapel in the world. Edward Costello built it in the 19th century for his wife Josephine as a memorial and burial vault. It is sixteen feet long, twelve feet wide and thirty feet high. The remains of both Josephine and Edward were laid to rest within the chapel.
